We funded emergency surgery for a retired police dog who was rushed to the vets in the middle of the night.
RPD Nipper worked for Suffolk Police as a general purpose dog, before moving to Norfolk Police.
He served for seven years before retiring in 2024 at the age of eight and was adopted by police officers Ella and Dan who had met him at work.
We supported Nipper before so, in June 2025, when his bladder became blocked meaning he was unable to go to the toilet, he needed an emergency castration to reduce the swelling, and his owners turned to us again.Â
Ella added: “We rushed Nipper into the vets at midnight because he was in a lot of pain. He ended up staying in at the vets for a few days which was really worrying.
“The Thin Blue Paw was there for us again and stepped in to pay for the emergency surgery, at a cost of £1,000.”
Ella added: “Taking on a dog is a huge responsibility and a big financial commitment, none more so than a retired police dog. Having the charity there to support them when they need it the most is a huge relief and brings us great comfort.
“We’re so grateful for the support and we’re pleased that Nipper has since recovered from the surgery and is now back to his happy self; wagging his tail and swimming in the sea.”
Nipper will now have to be monitored closely to ensure the swelling doesn’t increase again.
