A couple who cared for police dog Nipper while he was a puppy were reunited with him after a decade apart.
German Shepherd Nipper lived with Jackie and Dave Macdonald, in Birmingham, in 2016. They took him after a ‘dark time’ following the tragic loss of their son.
Jackie said: “We had no idea then what impact he would have on our lives, and how broken our hearts would be when he was called back to begin his training.
“Nipper came at such a dark time in our lives and helped us focus on something new; but he took our hearts too. We’re forever grateful for Nipper, we love you and always will.”
Despite requests for updates on Nipper, they never heard about him again. Until they spotted him on the Foundation’s website when we shared news of helping him with surgery.
Nipper joined Suffolk Police to work as a general purpose dog before moving to Norfolk Police. He served for seven years before retiring to live with fellow police officers Ella and Dan.
The Macdonalds found Nipper’s page on our website and contacted our team to ask to be put in touch with his new owners, who were only too happy to arrange a meeting.
“Ten long years and we finally got our happy ever after,” Jackie said. “Thanks to the Thin Blue Paw team and Nipper’s new mum and dad, we got the reunion we always wanted. We will forever be grateful for that lovely day.”
They all met for a walk and lunch at Whitlingham Broads, in Norfolk, along with their rescue dog, Molly.
Ella added: “It was lovely to meet them and quite emotional as Nipper was such a special dog to them.”
