FIND OUT MORE ABOUT RETIRED POLICE DOG ARNI
RPD Arni served as a general purpose dog with the Ministry of Defence Police before retiring in 2022 to live with his handler, Darren Mitchell, and his family.
Darren said: “Arni retired early due to a severe injury to his gracilis muscle in his left hind leg that led to the same injury on his right hind.
“He had hydrotherapy, physio and massage but he was unable to return to duty.”
He was enjoying retired life when, in 2024, he developed a lump on hip which was cancerous and needed to be removed urgently.
Darren approached the Foundation for help with the £2,000 bill and we agreed to pay the full amount.

“The Foundation was amazing, and everyone I spoke to was so understanding and reassuring. We were so grateful as it’s so hard to get retired police dogs insured due to what their bodies have been through.”
