FIND OUT MORE ABOUT HOW WE HELPED RETIRED POLICE DOG DRAX IN HIS RETIREMENT
RPD Krow joined Cambridgeshire Constabulary in 2018 at the age of two and worked as a general purpose dog with the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire & Hertfordshire Joint Dog Unit.
He was a formidable police dog who was responsible for many arrests following successful tracks, supporting officers at public disorder incidents, and working as a firearms support dog. He had to retire early, in 2021, due to hip dysplasia.
His handler, Baz, was unable to keep him on retirement and a fellow officer put him touch with Robert Saddington who was interested in offering him a home.
“I had a month trial to see how he settled in and he’s been here ever since!” Robert said.
“He loved chasing balls but would never give them back so I’d have to take three out when we went on a walk.”

“He also had a reputation as a ball thief and I’d have to get other owners’ addresses so I could return the stolen ball later!”
Krow now enjoys his retired life with Robert and rescue dog, Jackson.
“At home, they like to chill, but out on walks Krow is very sociable and used to go for morning walks with 10 other dogs, all running free together.
“I have to keep him on the lead now as he can’t run due to his hips. There’s nothing wrong with his bearing though; he can be asleep and still hear the sound of the Ziploc bag opening where the cheese is kept!”
The Foundation supported Krow in 2023, paying for tests and a scan when he started suffering from nosebleeds, and we also cover the monthly cost of his daily diabetes medication.

“The support the Thin Blue Paw provides to retired dogs is incredible, not just the financial support but also the knowledge. Vets wanted to operate on Krow’s cruciate but, with the help of the charity, the surgery was suspended and he recovered well on his own!”
