RPD Skye served as a general purpose dog with Derbyshire Constabulary for six years, during which time she was partnered with two different handlers.

She received several commendations for her outstanding work but, following an accident in 2022, she had to have her tail amputated and was then medically retired.

Serving police sergeant Jim and his family adopted her and she quickly settled into her new life.

“She enjoys long walks, holidays, chasing her ball and playing with her favourite toys,” Jim said.

“Despite having been a fierce and capable police dog, Skye has mellowed into a kind, loving but protective girl with her family who all love her very much.”

In 2026, Skye’s owners took her to the vet after spotting a growth on the lower eyelid of her right eye.

She had surgery to remove the growth and, thankfully, it was found to be benign. The Foundation covered the £600 bill.

The family were initially quoted over £1,700 but the Foundation helped them find another clinic where the service they all received was ‘first class’.
