FIND OUT HOW WE HELPED RETIRED POLICE DOG HUNTER IN HIS RETIREMENT
RPD Hunter was purchased as a puppy by Bedfordshire Police and went to live with a puppy walker before starting his training as an explosives detection dog.
He was based at Luton Airport where he worked with handler Andy Parker until he retired at the age of six in 2024. Andy said: “He was very talented and was quite the hit with passengers and staff.”
Upon retirement, Hunter went to live with Andy and his partner, Ali, who said: “Hunter settled into retirement incredibly well.
“He is a dream dog and he loves life. He enjoys snoozing on the sofa, being spoiled at the local pub, and tucking into snacks; a lot of snacks!
“We absolutely love taking him to the beach and regularly visit Norfolk. He likes nothing more than splashing around in the water. I wish he was a better swimmer because I’m like a nervous parent wishing he had water-wings on!”

Andy and Ali signed Hunter up to the Foundation after hearing about it from another retired police dog owner.
Ali added: “Andy met Thin Blue Paw founder Kieran and heard first-hand about the amazing work the charity does.
“These dogs are intelligent, work for nothing and are rewarded with a tennis ball and a whole lot of love.
“In retirement they should be looked after and we really appreciate the Thin Blue Paw for offering such amazing support.”
The Foundation supported Hunter’s family in 2025 with a suspected stomach blockage. We covered the cost of scans which discovered he was suffering from pancreatitis.

“We’ve already benefitted from the support the Foundation offers and hopefully we’ll never need help again but knowing we can is a great comfort!”
