HOW WE HELPED RETIRED POLICE DOG IZZY DURING HER RETIREMENT
RPD Izzy was bred in Holland and moved to Northern Ireland where she was trained as part of a pilot project to be a conflict management dog working directly with the PSNI Counter Terrorist Specialist Firearms Officers.
Izzy was paired with her handler, Stephen, and they licensed together in 2018.
Stephen said: “Izzy is an intelligent dog and she is free-thinking so she always worked well independently.
“She was deployed on over 100 operations during her career, and she was sent in in front of a firearms team to support them in high threat environments.”

“She was well-loved by the unit as she kept her humans safe.”
Izzy retired in September 2025 to live with her handler on the outskirts of Belfast.
In January 2026, the Foundation helped to cover the costs of her hospitalisation after she was rushed to the vets when she started vomiting blood.
She needed tests and scans but vets were unable to ascertain what was causing the problem. Thankfully, she recovered and was able to return home after just a few days.

“The Foundation has been amazing, they took over the administration and liaised with the vets so I could concentrate on the welfare of my dog. They were compassionate and supportive.”
