MEET RETIRED POLICE DOG AUDI
What are the highlights from Audi’s career?
“A notable job we attended was the report of a break-in at a business premises. Whilst tracking through a residential estate, Audi located and apprehended two persons along with finding some of the stolen property.”
What does retirement look like for Audi?
“Audi loves to snooze by the radiator and is a real sun-worshipper. Audi regularly joins me on visits to my mum who lives in a local care home and he laps up the fuss from the staff and residents.”
What’s your favourite thing about Audi?
“When bedtime comes, Audi loves to climb on our bed for cuddles. When the lights go off he knows it’s time to get down and will curl up on his own bed and starts snoring so loudly!”
Tell us a funny story about Audi…
“One of the funniest times with him was his first bath. We don’t think he’d ever experienced a bath before, but he loved it! Sometimes I catch him leaning over the side of the bath and having a good slurp of the clean bath water!”
FIND OUT MORE ABOUT RETIRED POLICE DOG AUDI
RPD Audi joined Staffordshire Police in 2018 as a general purpose dog and was partnered with PC Mander.
In 2019, Audi was attacked while detaining a suspect in Stoke-on-Trent and was stabbed in the eye. His attacker was the first to be prosecuted under Finn’s Law.
In 2020, Audi was re-handled by PC Dutton, who said: “We were called to numerous incidents looking for offenders and missing persons. We were also involved in many football duties and during the Tamworth riots.”
Audi retired in December 2024 due to his age and was adopted by Katie Wright, who also works for the police after she heard he was looking for a home and following the sad loss of her late dog, Storm.

“Audi is the first retired police dog and German Shepherd we’ve owned,” Katie said. “To say he’s taken to retirement would be an understatement!
“He is loving indoor life and the home comforts, you can usually find him lying on his back against the radiator fast asleep. He lies in the morning sun’s rays and enjoys walks around the village where we live.
“At the weekend we hire a private secure field so he can enjoy running off-lead as much as he wants. And we’ve been teaching him how to shake a paw.
“I was keen to register Audi with the Foundation as I think it’s an important part of their retirement, a way to never forget the hard work they put in and support them as they grow old.”

“Even though Audi has only been with us a short time it feels like he‘s been here a lot longer. He has certainly filled a void in our home after we sadly lost our previous dog and I’m proud that he’s registered with the Thin Blue Paw.”
