FIND OUT MORE ABOUT RETIRED POLICE DOG BAILEY
RPD Bailey served with the Civil Nuclear Constabulary his whole life, retiring just short of his 10th birthday.
He was based at Dounreay in Scotland where he helped to keep the nuclear research base safe.
His handler couldn’t keep him in retirement so Bailey moved to kennels but was struggling in the environment when another handler spotted him and suggested him to her parents.
Lynn Shevlin adopted Bailey and he’s now enjoying life in Cumbria.
Lynn said: “Bailey is living life to the fullest; enjoying swimming in the river, cuddling on the sofa and the freedom of our big garden. He is making himself at home.

“We live near the River Cocker which he loves and my husband is a fell walker so he gets lots of walks.
“He is such a good boy, he is good with other dogs and, most importantly, he’s great with our one-year-old grandson.
“We will give him a comfortable retirement for as long as he has a good quality of life.
“We were advised to sign him up to the Thin Blue Paw by Sellafield Dog Unit. As an ex-Army veteran myself, I think ex-service dogs should have the same recognition as us.
“I think the Foundation is important because quite often, and not unlike ex-service personnel, they’re cast aside and people forget they’ve given the best years of their lives to protect life and property.”

“As pensioners, should Bailey need expensive treatment, we’re not in a position to pay for this. It’s very reassuring to know we can turn to the charity for help.“
Lynn, Bailey’s owner
