FIND OUT MORE ABOUT RETIRED POLICE DOG BEN
RPD Ben worked as a general purpose dog for Dorset Police for five years.
Ben’s adopter, Georgie Bourley, said: “He was always ready and raring to go. He loved his job; he’s got a brilliant work ethic and enthusiasm where he was happiest when there was something to do.”
He retired in August 2026 due to his age and went to live with his handler but he struggled to adjust to retired life when his handler continued going out to work so he decided to it would be best for him to find another home.
Georgie and Kayleigh met him for a walk and ‘fell in love with him straight away’.
Now aged nine, he moved in after the couple’s wedding and, Georgie said: “We can’t imagine our life without him again. He absolutely adores his sister-in-law, Sasha. They’re best mates.”

“He’s quickly discovering some of the benefits of retirement, namely lots and lots of cuddles and a rather excessive supply of treats from his new pawrents!
“He’s very playful and fit for his age. He gives us a good runaround and loves going out to the fields to chase a ball.
“We’re absolutely delighted to have Ben registered with the Foundation. We wanted him to receive the recognition and respect he deserves after dedicating his working life to such an important job.
“We’re really proud to be Ben’s pawrents and to be able to give him the retirement he deserves.
“We also love knowing that by supporting the Foundation, we’re helping not just Ben, but all the other police doggos who come after him and eventually need the same love, care and support.”

“We fell in love with the Thin Blue Paw Foundation and what it stands for. It means a lot to us to be involved with an organisation that recognises the incredible contribution police dogs make throughout their careers while also supporting them once they retire.“
