HOW WE’VE HELPED RETIRED POLICE DOG B`RIAN IN RETIREMENT
RPD Brian worked as a search dog with the Ministry of Defence Police and was based, for most of his career, in North Yorkshire.
His handler David Squire took him on and trained him for vehicle searches, detecting explosives and munitions.
He said: “He was a devoted colleague, his working drive and his amorous nature to please made him a bit of a local loved celebrity.
“When off-duty he was a great companion and, when my family expanded, he was patient and loving. My son and Brian had a special bond.

“Brian’s health was generally good and, at almost 13 years old, he went the distance with it too.
“He wasn’t a complainer, a pipe and slippers kind of dog with endless affection. Even when he was terminally ill, he soldiered on.”
Sadly, Brian was put to sleep in July 2022 after vets discovered aggressive cancer.
“Thank you to the Thin Blue Paw for supporting Brian into his retirement all the way to his final breath.”
