HOW WE HELPED RETIRED POLICE DOG BRODIE IN RETIREMENT
RPD Brodie spent six years working as a general purpose dog with Police Service Northern Ireland and his handler, Peter.
Peter, from County Antrim, said: “Brodie was my first police dog and was 16-months-old when he came to me.”
Brodie grew up with Peter’s children and, when he retired at the age of eight, there was no doubt he’d stay with the family.
During his career, Brodie excelled in his role helping to detain criminals, located high-risk vulnerable people, and work on the frontline of public order incidents.

Peter said: “From a young age, Brodie showed incredible bravery and helped with major incidents like large-scale riots. He prevented me from being injured on so many occasions including one time when he closed down a criminal before he had a chance to attack me with a syringe of acid.”
Brodie struggled with mobility issues, recurring paw infections and so Peter registered him with our Foundation and we’ve helped with some of his veterinary bills.
Sadly, Brodie passed away at home in the arms of Peter’s wife in October 2022 following a short illness.
Peter added: “The Thin Blue Paw Foundation has been a lifeline; my family and I will always be grateful.”

IN MEMORY OF
RPD BRODIE 2010-2022
“Brodie was always at the end of the lead and never once took a step back. He was the bravest dog I’d ever seen in my 10 years, although I might be a bit biased!” – Peter
