FIND OUT MORE ABOUT RETIRED POLICE DOG CHAS
Ten-year-old RPD Chas – formerly known as Csacsi – served with Police Service Northern Ireland for five years as a general purpose dog, from 2015 to 2020.
Unfortunately, the German Shepherd had to retire due to back problems and, although he was initially due to stay with his handler, he didn’t get on with the officer’s replacement police dog.
Nigel had recently retired from the police and was formerly a military dog handler so offered Chas a new home.
“He’s been living a life of luxury for five-and-a-half years now,” Nigel said.

“He’s not very sociable with other dogs but he loves people,” Nigel said.
“We do a lot of hiking in the mountains together a enjoy travelling in the motorhome. He’s a very happy hound.”
Chas, now 10 years old, is in good health but was registered with the Foundation by his previous owner so Nigel decided to continue the membership.
He added: “He obviously isn’t as supple as he used to be but he’s still able to climb the odd mountain!”

“I hope our membership will help to support other police dogs who might need care. And if Chas ever needs it then it would be great to have help.“
Nigel, Chas’s owner
