HOW WE HELPED RETIRED POLICE DOG CLEO IN RETIREMENT
RPD Cleo joined Cumbria Police as a general purpose dog because she had too much energy for her previous owners. She spent six years working before retiring to live with police employee, Allyce, in April 2020.
Sadly, she developed an allergy that caused her lots of discomfort.
Allyce said: “Cleo would itch her eyelids until they would bleed. She had numerous tests and the cause is unknown but with steroids they clear up. She can’t be on steroids for a long period of time so we tried different medications to try to help.”
We covered the cost of her tablets – at £1.20 each – and she initially needed four a day.
Allyce said: “It would have been a huge expense for us to pay ourselves and the Foundation gives us comfort knowing they will be there to give us support and opening up more options for dogs like Cleo.”

“The Thin Blue Paw has helped fund Cleo’s treatment meaning we could trial different types of treatment to see which works best for her.”
Allyce, Cleo’s owner
