HOW WE HELPED RETIRED POLICE DOG COOKIE IN RETIREMENT
RPD Cookie served as a general purpose dog with the Ministry of Defence Police.
Her handler, Josh, said: “Cookie was trained to track scents and carry out searches to find people hiding or missing, as well as to chase and detain fleeing suspects.
“Cookie was excellent at her job; she was always alert and never switched off, she was ready to go as soon as the van doors opened.
“She was highly focused and very determined; she never gave up with tasks and was always on the go. She was like a little missile when she was chasing or detaining and would hit you with the whole force of her weight!”

Following a six-year career, Cookie, now aged nine, retired in 2024. Sadly, due to a change in circumstances, Josh wasn’t able to keep her and came to the Foundation for help in finding her a new home.
After some support from our team, Cookie was adopted by Claire and is doing well in her new home.
Josh, who still sees Cookie regularly, said: “Cookie is a very loving dog and loves fuss, cuddles and playtime. She’s very loyal, very intelligent and loves to be around people.”
The Foundation supports Cookie who needs regular medication and hydrotherapy to manage her arthritis.

“I’m so grateful to the Thin Blue Paw for supporting Cookie and helping her have a better, pain-free life.”
Claire, Cookie’s owner
