FIND OUT MORE ABOUT RETIRED POLICE DOG DRAX
RPD Drax was bought as an eight-week-old puppy to train as a general purpose police dog and served with Nottinghamshire Police for three years.
He also licensed as a firearms support dog and had many successful deployments, tracks and finds during his career.
Wendy Green applied to adopt a retired police dog and was matched with Drax, who was finishing his career early, in February 2025, due to his anxiety working on slippery floors.
Wendy said: “The unit felt he’d lost his confidence and, because he’s quite reactive around other dogs, they struggled to rehome him with any of the handlers.

Wendy added: “Managing Drax’s reactivity can be hard work but I wouldn’t part with him; he’s my world.”
When she adopted Drax, officers at Nottinghamshire Police dog unit recommended she registered with the Thin Blue Paw Foundation.
“The Thin Blue Paw does an amazing job,” Wendy, who is planning to raise money for the Foundation, added.
Drax has some lameness and has regular pain relief medication to help manage it, which Wendy pays for herself.

“I pay for Drax’s medication myself because I can afford to do so, but registering him with the Foundation gives me peace of mind because you never know what’s around the corner.”
