FIND OUT MORE ABOUT RETIRED POLICE DOG FIZZ
Ministry of Defence Police dog handler Duncan Fleming took on Fizz when she was just eight weeks old, in December 2010, when she was presented to the dog section at Devenport Naval Base in Plymouth.
Duncan and his family took Fizz home to puppy walk her and prepare her for training, which she started when she was eight-months-old.
She was partnered with another handler and worked at MoD Corsham in Wiltshire before moving to MoD Credenhill in Herefordshire, and finished her career at RAF Menwith Hill in Yorkshire.
Then, Duncan received a phone call one evening asking if they’d like to take her back for her retirement. She came home with them in December 2018.

Duncan said: “When Fizz returned to the home she had known as a puppy, her ears went up, as did her nose, and when her name was called, she knew where she was, that she was safe and who we were.
Fizz, 15, had regular hydrotherapy and pain relief to help with her arthritis, paid for by the Foundation.
Duncan said: “The support from the Foundation is essential to help dogs like Fizz enjoy their retirement as there’s often no designated funding to cover their long-term needs after a hard working life.”
Sadly, after her condition deteriorated, Duncan and his family said goodbye to Fizz in January 2026.

“Getting Fizz back filled a big hole in our lives and we loved her dearly. It is with great sadness that we got to the point where it was in her best interests to let her go.” – Duncan
