FIND OUT MORE ABOUT RETIRED POLICE DOG HOPI
RPD Hopi – who was bred in Holland – was Helen Kent’s first general purpose dog when she joined the Ministry of Defence Police in Scotland, in 2015.
Helen said: “Hopi was a tenacious worker and adored bite work. I achieved a lot of training aspirations with her and learned a lot.
“I couldn’t believe my luck that I ended up in this job with such a beautiful dog. She did everything I ever asked of her and we learned together. She thoroughly enjoyed bite work and kept me company on many patrols over the years.
“She was home kennelled with me for most of her career as unfortunately central kennels did nothing for her stress levels!”

Hopi retired in 2022 and enjoyed living alongside her three-year-old human sister, explosives search dog PD Huxley, as well as two pet dogs and a cat!
Helen added: “She has her challenges; she is extremely dog reactive out and about and has the German Shepherd trait of barging everything and anything out of the way to fit herself into any little space! But she has done me proud and has adapted well to all of life’s changes!”
The Foundation stepped in to support Hopi – nicknamed the Hopster – when she needed treatment for a lesion on her leg, covering the £700 bill.
Sadly, just over a year later she started to struggle with her back legs and went off her food, and vets diagnosed a possible neurological condition so Helen said goodbye to her former partner and special friend.

‘I think Hopi had a really good life and our home is so much quieter without her. I miss her, there will never be another like her. Thank you for everything, Hopster.’ – Helen
