HOW WE HELPED RETIRED POLICE DOG INDIE IN RETIREMENT
RPD Indie was bred in Europe and joined Police Scotland in 2015. She served for seven years before retiring in 2022.
During her career she also competed at two regional dog trials, winning phase three in one and qualifying for the National Police Dog Trials (although, sadly, she wasn’t able to attend).
She was adopted by her handler, Scott Nicholson, and now enjoys the quieter life with him and his wife.
Scott said: “Indie was always really protective of me and wouldn’t let anyone near me! But she was also very obedient and controlled.
“She now enjoys not having to get out of her bed for a night shift.”
Indie now struggles with allergies so receives an injection every three months to help manage the condition – which the Foundation helps with the cost of.
“The Thin Blue Paw Foundation helps retired police dogs who get no assistance when they retire which can be difficult as insurance can be impossible to find.”
