HOW WE HELPED RETIRED POLICE DOG INDIE IN RETIREMENT
RPD Indie was bred in Europe and joined Police Scotland in 2015. She served for seven years before retiring in 2022.
During her career she also competed at two regional dog trials, winning phase three in one and qualifying for the National Police Dog Trials (although, sadly, she wasn’t able to attend).
She was adopted by her handler, Scott Nicholson, to enjoy the quieter life with him and his wife.
He said: “Indie gave me the opportunity to live my dream. As my first police dog, we learned the job together, faced challenges and built a bond that only a handler and dog can truly understand.
“Indie was always really protective of me and wouldn’t let anyone near me! But she was also very obedient and controlled.”
Indie, who struggled in later life with allergies, was supported by the Foundation and received an injection every three months to help manage the condition.
Scott added: “The Foundation helps retired police dogs who get no assistance when them retire which can be difficult as insurance can be impossible to find.”
Indie sadly passed away in May 2026 after vets diagnosed her with a bone tumour which was untreatable.
