FIND OUT MORE ABOUT RETIRED POLICE DOG JASK
RPD Jask was bred in Holland in 2016 before being brought to the UK the following year to complete his training with the Defence Animal Training Regiment.
He joined the Ministry of Defence Police in 2017 to support the security at defence sites and support the local police force.
His owner, Dave, said: “Thankfully visits to the vet were rare for Jask, although he did have to have his tail amputated following an injury, but this hasn’t caused any ongoing problems.”
Jask retired in 2023 and was adopted by Dave and his family, in Berkshire.

“Living in a home was completely foreign to him but he settled in reasonably quickly and is a firm favourite in our neighbourhood – with other dogs and their owners!” Dave added. “He has some gastrointestinal issues so we had to find a food which didn’t irritate that.
“Now he enjoys walking and sniffing in the woods and was very excited to go in the sea. He likes to watch TV (especially Strictly!), chase pigeons and cats from the garden, and tries to get into any vehicle that happens to leave the door open – including the DHL van!
“He’s a laid-back dog who is a pleasure to be around.”
A routine blood test showed some liver and kidney issues so he’s now having follow-up tests for that.

“Charities like the Thin Blue Paw are so important because of the difficulty in getting insurance for ex-police dogs. The Foundation is a safety net which alleviates some concerns around adopting a retired police dog.“
