HOW WE HELPED RETIRED POLICE DOG LENNY IN RETIREMENT
RPD Lenny was bred by South Yorkshire Police in 2014 and joined Mike Taylor at the age of one when his previous dog, Lutz, retired.
Lenny worked as a general purpose and firearms support dog until he retired in 2019 with Mike.
Mike said: “We were deployed to daily high-profile incidents including riots, murders, armed incidents and terrorist threats, and we were requested to help across the UK in support of major public order, VIP and national events.
“Throughout our operational patrols Lenny found many missing people, prevented escapes and detained multiple prisoners as well as helping with educating schools and colleges on animal health and welfare, and the role of police dogs.
“He is an awesome friend, companion and integral part of our lives and we’re extremely thankful to the Thin Blue Paw for the awesome support we have received.”

Mike and his wife, Jackie, adopted Lenny who is now 11, alongside Mike’s other retired working dogs, Lutz and Mia.
Jackie said: “We took Lenny for a health check in December 2024 and they found he had a perineal hernia which, if left untreated, can cause bowel problems.
“He had an operation to repair the hernia in January and also castrated him to prevent the hernia returning.
“He’s pretty fit for his age so should make a full recovery. He was a little trouper through it all apart from having to wear a cone, which he didn’t like!”
The Foundation helped cover the cost of the surgery.

“Since his operation and recovery Lenny is back to full health and fitness and that is a tribute to your support and facilitating his medical treatment for which we’re forever thankful.”
