FIND OUT MORE ABOUT RETIRED POLICE DOG MACK
RPD Mack served Kent Police as a general purpose and firearms support dog from 2014 until retiring for health reasons in 2020.
He suffered with a pancreatic enzyme deficiency throughout his life which he received lifelong medication for.
When his career ended early, he was adopted by fellow police officer Andy Ferguson, who was friends with his handler, Paul Bassett.
Andy said: “Mack was handled by a friend of mine and lived with me for a period of time so when he retired I was offered the chance to adopt him and jumped at the chance.
“Whilst serving, Mack had a real flair and love for searching and, even in retirement, he never lost his drive.

“He loved nothing more than searching nearby woodland for hidden items.
“He was the most loving dog you could imagine and would always get lots of attention when he attended open days to support the Foundation. Whenever he heard sirens and gunshots during demonstrations he’d snap straight into work mode!”
During retirement, Mack became seriously ill with severe pancreatitis and needed £1,000 of veterinary treatment which was paid for by the Foundation.
Andy added: “Mack started to struggle with his mobility but remained happy. However, after a short illness, he passed away in April 2025.”
His ashes were scattered at the Kent Police kennels where Andy met another retired dog needing a new home, RPD Wilson, who now lives with him.
