FIND OUT MORE ABOUT RETIRED POLICE DOG MARCO
RPD Marco was only four when he retired early from service with Durham Constabulary. He’d served for two years but it was decided that he wasn’t really cut out for the job.
Laura Meller – who’d adopted two retired police dogs before – took Marco on after spotting the advert on social media.
She said: “Marco was a great tracking dog but despite his mean-looking demeanour he’s a big softie who has adjusted to retired life and enjoys belly rubs and cuddles in bed!

“He can be a complete menace at times but his goofy face means he gets away with it! He also loves having playdates with his collie friend, Dory.”
Laura’s late dog, RPD Drake, sadly died suddenly in 2024 and Laura struggled without a dog. After the Foundation had supported Drake, she registered Mark with us straight away.
Sadly, Marco was then diagnosed with elbow dysplasia which can cause lameness but is now managed with pain medication.

“Sadly I expect Marco’s pain will get progressively worse as he ages so he is a proud member of the Thin Blue Paw Foundation.“
