MORE ABOUT RETIRED POLICE DOG MAX
RPD Max only had a short police career, retiring from Northamptonshire Police at just three due to arthritis.
Although his career was brief, he won a number of awards for bravery during his service. He struggled to settle into his new home and was then adopted by Paul and Victoria Rice.
Paul said: “We instantly fell in love with him. We visited regularly to give him time to get to know us and then brought him home.”
They’ve treated his arthritis with medication, physio, laser therapy and hydrotherapy, none of which is covered by his insurance as a pre-existing condition.

In 2022, Max needed surgery to remove a growth and we covered the bill.
Paul added: “We’ve always had insurance for Max but the insurance company wouldn’t cover the claim for his surgery and we simply couldn’t afford the bill.
“We wanted to say a big thank you to everyone at the Thin Blue Paw Foundation. We do not know what we would have done without you.”
Sadly, in February 2024, Max passed away following his battle with cancer.
Paul added: “We’re so grateful to the Foundation for helping give us two more years with him. Thank you for helping us give him the life he deserved.”

IN MEMORY OF
RPD MAX 2011-2024
“Max was our first dog and he was perfect for our family. He loved playing, laying in the sunshine like the King of the garden, and eating popcorn! He was our lovable giant and we’re so pleased we got to share life with him.” – Victoria
