FIND OUT MORE ABOUT RETIRED POLICE DOG MINA
RPD Mina was a general purpose dog with the Ministry of Defence Police and served her whole career at RNAD Coulport Atomics Weapons Establishments site, in Scotland.
She was partnered with her handler, Brian, at just 16-months-old and they worked together for six years until she retired due to a heart murmur.
He said: “She is a lovely dog, she was great at her work. She was good at bite work from the start and responded well to commands. She loved tracking and was like a stream train; she was easy to read when she was on a scent and loved doing it.
“I would take the credit for training her, however I think she was just a natural!”
The 11-year-old retired to live with Brian in 2023 and hasn’t always been in the best of health.

Brian added: “She has had a few close calls, surviving a gastric torsion, eating a towel and her heart murmur.
“But she has settled into retired life really well and it’s like she’s always been here.
“She loves lounging in front of the fire and going on seaside walks, though she only has short walks these days. She likes paddling in the water and watching the local fox family when we’re out on walks.”
Brian is proud to be part of the Foundation family, adding: “It’s such a shame there’s no support for working dogs post-retirement. They give their lives to protecting the public as well as guarding, watching and patrolling.
“I am grateful Mina has been accepted into the charity and continues to receive support.”

“The Foundation is there to support these dogs financially and is vital in spreading the word about the often overlooked role they play on a day-to-day-basis.“
