FIND OUT MORE ABOUT RETIRED POLICE DOG MITZI
Ministry of Defence search and detection dog RPD Mitzi worked with her handler, Claire Addems, for four years after her initial handler retired from service.
The King Charles spaniel cross – who is now 11 – was great at searching due to her size.
Claire said: “Mitzi was a little pocket rocket; she’s only 9kg but she is full of life.
“She was a great search dog and was able to get into some really small spaces!”

Mitzi now lives at home in Devon with Claire, her family, and her two other retired police dogs, Atos and Whisky.
Claire said: “She’s now loving retired life and stays at home with Atos; they are the best of friends.”
Mitzi has lost her hearing in her older age and doesn’t have brilliant eyesight, but is registered with the Foundation for any other health problems that could arise.
Claire added: “We snuggle every night on the sofa and she is my little shadow.”

“The Thin Blue Paw has helped my other retired police dog, Atos, with thousands of pounds worth of surgery and I know they’ll be there if Mitzi ever needs them.”
