RPD Monty

RPD Monty was born in 2014 as part of the South Yorkshire Police breeding programme. He joined Nottinghamshire Police the following year and was partnered with new police dog handler, Matthew Brown, qualifying at just 14-months-old.  

Matthew said: “Monty was my first police dog and went on to have a good career. He was naturally a good police dog and really enjoyed work, and even appeared in Police Interceptors.

“Monty’s greatest strength was finding people, whether that be tracking or searching.  Over his career he found a number of missing people, detained some very dangerous criminals, and found criminals hiding.”

He retired in 2023 when he began slowing down and his years of working started to ‘take a toll on his body’. PD Rocket took over with PC Brown and Monty retired to live with the family in Nottinghamshire as a pet, along with Labrador PD Toby and spaniel Louie, their other pet.
