FIND OUT MORE ABOUT RETIRED POLICE DOG NASH
RPD Nash served with Leicestershire Police as a general purpose dog for three years.
On his first shift, he located a suspect who was wanted for theft, and on his final shift, he tracked and found a burglary suspect after a 40-minute search through a sewage works.
His handler, PC Kier Wilson, said: “He was so quick to learn and was very confident. He was quite sharp and earned himself a bit of a reputation!
“During his career, Nash detained numerous suspects involved in violent incidents, crimes involving weapons, burglaries and vehicle pursuits; as well as helping to locate vulnerable missing people and important evidential items.”

Nash – who is older brother to the late PD Zyla, who tragically died in the line of duty and was awarded our 2024 Outstanding Bravery Award – was himself awarded Leicestershire’s Pen Lloyd Trophy in 2023 for the best operational police dog work.
Sadly, Nash had to retire early after he was diagnosed, in August 2024, with chronic superficial keratitis (pannus) – an eye condition that has impaired his vision.
He retired to live with Kier, who added: “He’s settled into home life well and now enjoys evenings snoozing on the sofa.”

“The Thin Blue Paw does exceptional charitable work and advocacy to ensure retired police dogs receive the care and support they deserve, especially as they don’t receive any form of pension.“
