FIND OUT MORE ABOUT RETIRED POLICE DOG POLLY
RPD Polly joined the Ministry of Defence Police in 2018 as a search and detection dog. She is one of just a few German Shorthaired Pointers working with the police in the UK.
When her owner retired the following year, Polly was teamed up with Lucy Hulme as a vehicle explosive search team. Polly lived at home with Lucy and they worked together in North Yorkshire.
Lucy said: “Polly had a fantastic career searching all types of vehicles, from cars to helicopters. Polly loved searching and even continues to do it during retirement on passing vehicles!
“Polly has conducted many searches, but one of our highlights was meeting the then Prince Charles.”

After struggling with lameness in her shoulder and rear leg, Polly retired, in 2023, to live with Lucy.
She added: “Retirement involves plenty of cuddles on the sofa, beach days and lying in front of the fire. Polly still loves her tennis ball and carries it around.”
Polly, now 10, is closely monitored and sometimes needs pain relief for her injuries. But Lucy decided to register her with the Foundation.
Lucy said: “We registered Polly with the Thin Blue Paw as we couldn’t insure her. I had promoted the charity before and I feel lucky to now be a member.”

“We’re lucky to have a charity like the Thin Blue Paw to help dogs like Polly. I’m really grateful to have their support and I hope we won’t have to call on them.“
