MORE ABOUT HOW WE SUPPORTED RETIRED POLICE DOG RAZOR

RPD Razor was just three-months-old when he joined Bedfordshire Police to train as a general purpose dog with handler, Mark.

“I ran him on and trained him prior to his course, which he commenced at approximately 12-months-old and I continued to handle him through his training and throughout his six-and-a-half-year career,” Mark said.

Razor retired in 2020 to live with Mark and his family.

“He was an excellent police dog and had many successes during his career. In 2017, he tracked and helped to detain the most wanted man in Bedfordshire and Essex, who was on the run after 15 serious assaults on vulnerable victims and he received a commendation for that job.”

He was settling into retired life when he injured his shoulder.

Mark said: “He was in so much pain he was practically screaming when he put weight on the leg. He was clearly suffering so, despite wanting to ‘detain’ every vet he’s ever encountered, I was forced to take him in. It took three doses of sedatives plus a general anaesthetic before they could examine him!”

He needed multiple x-rays, manipulation and medication – at a cost of more than £500 – as well as recovery time, before he was back on all four paws. We paid for the treatment.

Mark said: “The Thin Blue Paw Foundation helped us with the monstrous bill and we’re really grateful to the charity for helping us out.”

Sadly, Razor had to put to sleep in 2024 and is hugely missed by Mark and his family.
