MEET RETIRED POLICE DOG ROGUE
What are the highlights from Rogue’s career?
“In 2022, a vehicle that had failed to stop in Kent made its way over the border into Sussex before two people fled. Rogue was on the scene within minutes, pulled his handler down the road and tracked for 100 yards to a close where he found one man hiding under a vehicle and then jumped over a wall to find the second hiding in a garden behind a shed.”
What does retirement look like for Rogue?
“Rogue settled right into the family like – he took it all in his stride. Rogue enjoys walks in the woods and along the beach. He absolutely loves our astro lawn and can often be found rolling around on it for a good scratch, and every evening he falls asleep on the sofa with the family and has dreams of chasing criminals!”
What’s your favourite memory with Rogue since he retired?
“Some favourite memories since adopting Rogue have to be him learning to do paw, finding out that he goes crazy for coconut oil, and watching him walk side-by-side with another dog which was a massive step due to his reactivity.”
What does the Thin Blue Paw mean to you?
“With us being part of the police family we are very supportive of blue light charities and feel the Thin Blue Paw is a very worthy charity to support. Even if it’s just wearing my Thin Blue Paw pin badge on my uniform it helps as people ask what the badge is for and I can then explain and raise awareness of the cause.”
FIND OUT MORE ABOUT RETIRED POLICE DOG ROGUE IN RETIREMENT
RPD Rogue worked with Sussex Police as a general purpose dog for four years until he was medically retired early in 2023.
During his career he worked with PC Kevin Parsons and was described as hard working with a ‘promising career ahead’, finding many people he was deployed to locate.
Unfortunately, he had to retire early after vets found he had spurs on his spine which were affecting his ability to jump and gave him a limp. He needed strong painkillers to make him comfortable.

PC Parsons wanted to keep him but was taking on a new dog and fellow police officer, Jack Amos, decided to adopt him. He’d been looking for a German Shepherd and couldn’t believe what a good match Rogue was for him.
Jack said: “Rogue is a much-loved member of the family and is great with our children.
“We’ve stopped his pain medication and he continues to be active with no signs of slowing down. We’re also working with a trainer to improve his reactivity towards other dogs and he’s been doing really well and is starting to make friends.”

“The Thin Blue Paw is more than just a safety net for us. Having this support if we ever need it will be a massive help.“
