HOW WE HELPED RETIRED POLICE DOG ROXY IN RETIREMENT
RPD Roxy worked as a passive drugs detection dog for Kent Police for four years before retiring with her handler, Joseph, in 2019.
She had initially trained as a guide dog but failed as she was too tempted by food!
Joseph adopted her and said she was a ‘fantastic and successful’ sniffer dog. He added: “She loved working at airports, nightclubs and shopping centres but, oddly, didn’t like working in train stations or on the high street!”
Roxy worked as a passive drugs detection dog for Kent Police for four years until retiring with her handler, Joseph, in May 2019. She adapted well to retired life, enjoying walks on the beach and swimming in the sea.
When she developed a fast-growing cancerous lump on her leg it was removed promptly, with the Foundation assisting with the cost of surgery.

“The lump appeared suddenly but, thanks to fast action from our vet and financial assistance from the Thin Blue Paw and Animal Friends Insurance, it was removed promptly and the indications now are that she is cancer-free.”
