FIND OUT MORE ABOUT RETIRED POLICE DOG STAN
RPD Stan worked as a cash, drugs and firearms detection dog in the Metropolitan Police in London.
He was searching toilets at Notting Hill Carnival with his handler, Neil, when he had a chance meeting with fellow officer, Stuart Murray. When Stan retired shortly after and Neil couldn’t keep her, Stuart took him on.
Stuart said: “Stan was such a friendly and loving dog, I immediately fell in love with him and offered to have him on retirement.”
Stuart and his wife already had a springer spaniel, Bobby, who soon accepted Stan as part of the family.
Stuart added: “Stan settled into family life very quickly and, although sometimes showing signs of stress around loud noises and similar, he soon relaxed.

“Stan and Bobby are inseparable sharing beds, food and toys. They’ve travelled with us camping in Spain, Portugal and holidays with us all over the UK.
“We now live in Scotland where we have just under six acres of garden for Stan to roam. We live near an estate with several thousands of acres where we walk in the mountains every morning. He loves the water and jumps in whenever he gets the opportunity.
“Stan is very intelligent and now spends his time sniffing food out. This often gets him into trouble, like in October 2023, when he took a fruit cake out of someone’s bag, unwrapped it and ate it causing a midnight trip to the vets and a £600 bill.”
He suffered acute pancreatitis, and the Foundation helped with the cost of the treatment.

“Stan is the most affectionate dog I’ve ever met and laps up and seeks out attention from everyone, who then immediately fall head over heels in love with him. He has made our family complete.“
