RPD Tina worked as an RAF Police patrol dog until retiring at the age of seven.
She spent her entire career at RAF Coningsby, in Lincolnshire, where she protected the base and the Typhoon jets.
In 2021, following her retirement, she was adopted by Melissa Hanby, who was working at the base at the time and had a drink with a colleague – in charge of the unit – who said he was struggling to rehome Tina.
“I agreed to meet her and the rest is history!” Melissa said. The 12-year-old Belgian Malinois came home with her a short while later and quickly adjusted to retired life.
Melissa added: “Tina loves people and would only train to a pass standard so, in 2020, she retired from service; she was just too nice!
“She loves retired life and enjoys exploring.
“She’s been to the beaches of Anglesey, climbed the mountains in North Wales, and even been camping in the Lake District.”
In 2024, Tina developed arthritis in her hips and the Foundation is helping fund the cost of her monthly medication to help with the pain.
“With no signs of her slowing down, Tina and I are forever grateful for the generosity of the charity and all of the wonderful people who represent them,” Melissa said.
“The Thin Blue Paw have really helped with the costs of Tina’s treatment, and have been amazing for advice.”
