HOW WE HELPED RETIRED POLICE DOG TOM IN RETIREMENT

RPD Tom spent six years working as a general purpose dog with the Ministry of Defence Police.

The nine-year-old worked with handler PC Karl Witte and the duo would chase and detain fleeing suspects, search open areas and buildings for property and people, as well as tracking missing people.

Sadly, he struggled with poor health during his whole career. He lost half of his tail after injuring it in his kennel and had problems with his skin due to being kennelled and having allergies.

We now support his allergy treatment.

Karl said: “He seems to struggle with environmental issues causing him to scratch and make his skin sore.

“He had a monthly injection for around two years to help manage this but he eventually got used to that and was moved onto tablets.

“He now has medication to help with his skin and allergies, as well as solution for his ears and to support his joints.

“Tom is a loyal, affectionate and proud dog who has been through so much. I love him and am so proud of everything he’s achieved.”
