HOW WE HELPED RETIRED POLICE DOG WOOKIE IN RETIREMENT
RPD Wookie worked with PC Chris Watson as a search and detection dog with Kent Police for two years before he was forced to retire early due to spondylosis (abnormal wear on cartilage and bones in the spine).
He was adopted by Chris and his wife, Alison, to live with his brother, RPD Tucker.
Alison said: “I’d been keeping an eye on a small, hard lump on his lower jaw for a while and was pleased when it went. But one morning I felt it had returned and was much large, leaving the side of his jaw swollen.
“I took him to the vets who managed to remove some pus. They thought it was an abscess so sedated him and washed it out, before treating him with antibiotics.
“The Thin Blue Paw kindly covered 60% of the vet fees which has helped us immensely.”

“Applying to the Thin Blue Paw is hassle and stress-free at a time when you’re worrying about your pet. The charity’s support has helped us immensely.”
