FIND OUT MORE ABOUT RETIRED POLICE DOG WILSON
RPD Wilson served as a general purpose and firearms support dog with Kent Police.
Wilson joined the force in 2010 and licensed with his handler, Paul Bassett, as a direct replacement for his previous dog, RPD Mack, when he retired.
When Paul was then promoted Wilson was reassigned to another handler.
Police officer Andy Ferguson – who adopted both Mack and Wilson – said: “Wilson was a real asset to the team, due to his drive and ability.
“He loved to work and never lost his enthusiasm, however, in July 2025, he was diagnosed with spondylosis and mild bilateral hip dysplasia.”
The decision was made to immediately retire Wilson to prevent any worsening of his condition or degradation of his spine.

Wilson retired in July 2025 and, needing a new home, it seemed to be fate when Andy visited kennels to scatter the ashes of his late retired police dog, and Wilson’s predecessor, Mack, who had passed away in April.
Andy said: “It felt like it was meant to be.”
Wilson moved in with Andy and his partner, Kirsty Simpkins, who said: “He is loving retirement and, although cannot walk for long periods, he loves nothing more than playing with his beloved Kong toy, or having a game of tug.”
Kirsty added: “Wilson is now registered with the Foundation and to have that peace of mind is a huge relief, particularly as he has a degenerative condition.”
Andy added: “The Thin Blue Paw is such an important charity for our wonderful, retired dogs.”

“Although Wilson hasn’t required any support to date, he is grateful to know he has the support of the Thin Blue Paw if he ever needs it.”
