FUNDRAISING IDEAS
PROTECT. CELEBRATE. REHABILITATE
We are a national dog welfare charity which protects, celebrates, supports and rehabilitates both serving and retired police dogs from across the UK.

FUNDRAISE FOR OUR FOUNDATION

Police dogs dedicate their lives to serving their communities, fighting crime and keeping their handlers safe.
But when they retire they receive no ongoing financial support from the Government or the force they served with, and the cost of their care falls solely on their owner.
Due to their strenuous working lives then can be prone to health conditions which can be expensive to manage. We pledge to be there for those dogs when they need us the most.
But we can only do this vital work with the support of our amazing community of sponsors, donors and fundraisers.
Is there something you could do to raise money for our Foundation, and help us help these unsung heroes?

Inspiring fundraising ideas
Ethan and Max, both 25, spent seven days climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, in Tanzania, in memory of Ethan’s one-year-old cocker spaniel, Loki, who was tragically killed after being attacked by another dog.
Ethan’s partner, Ellie-Mae, who works for Warwickshire Police, said: “There are no words to describe how perfect Loki was. He was really energetic and always on the go but also loved a cuddle.”
The couple wanted to turn an awful experience into something positive by raising money for charity and they collected more than £1,800 for the Foundation.
Ellie-Mae added: “We love the work that the Thin Blue Paw Foundation does; we have friends who are police dog handlers and we know how much this charity could help them when needed. Police dogs are heroes and, while we can’t bring our hero back, we hope we can save some others.”

A couple each took on a 100-mile running challenge to raise funds for the Foundation. Andy Ferguson, 47, and Kirsty Simpkins, 43, from Kent, completed their challenge throughout September 2025.
They wanted to raise money for the Foundation which supported their late dog – German Shepherd RPD Mack -when he suffered from gastric torsion. Their latest retired police dog, Wilson, is now registered with the charity.
Kirsty said: “The Thin Blue Paw has always been so supportive and we wanted to do something to pay them back. Wilson is now registered and to have that peace of mind is a huge relief, particularly as he has a degenerative condition.
“Running is not my thing; I was very slow and struggled to do more than five miles in one go so it was a big challenge for me but I’m really proud that we completed it.”
A team of military police officers and their dogs tackled a 38-mile loaded march across the Falklands to raise funds for us.
Hannah and three-year-old police dog, Coula, led the team from their camp at Mount Pleasant Complex to the local town of Stanley in seven hours and 48 minutes.
Cpl Hannah said: “We really wanted to involve our dogs in the endeavour so we set up a relay with different dogs completing different stages, as some of them don’t get on!”
The team – part of the British Forces South Atlantic Islands – raised more than £3,150!

Nottinghamshire Police control room dispatcher Daniela, 32, walked 280,000 steps in a month to raise £1,000.
Daniela adopted Charlie when he failed his police dog training, and later added retired police dog, Harper, to the pack.
When Harper needed injections to manage her allergies and was later diagnosed with cancer, which later claimed her life, we helped with veterinary costs.
Daniela, who has since adopted RPD Night, said: “The Thin Blue Paw has been a huge support to us and help our brave four-legged heroes every day and I wanted to do something to give back.”
A group of dog handlers from Scotland took on different fundraising challenges to raise £10,000 for the Foundation after being inspired by their relationships with their dogs.
They each committed to running, walking or cycling 10k a day for a month.
Lisa, who led the team, said: “I wanted to raise awareness of the charity and the work they do.
“Not a lot of people realise that retired police dogs don’t receive support from the force they once served.
“I wanted to help the charity as much as possible; one day, I might need their help.”

Two veterinary staff who treated retired police dogs were inspired to help our work by taking on the Jurassic Coast Challenge.
Surrey’s Rowley House Vets treated several police dogs and were inspired by a colleague who adopted a retired police dog. So practice manager Charlotte and vet Alyson completed the 100km walk to raise £2,000.
Charlotte said: “Police dogs deserve to be looked after following their years of service and we understand that, in some circumstances, they can be difficult to rehome.
“It’s amazing that the Thin Blue Paw Foundation is there to help these dogs and their new owners, and to ensure they can live out their lives in comfort.”
Northamptonshire Police’s calendar featuring its heroic police dogs raised more than £2,500 for the Foundation.
The photos – featuring the unit’s dogs – were taken by a PCSO who is a keen photographer. They sold calendars to people across the country and even globally, including America, Australia, Canada and New Zealand!
Northamptonshire Police dog handler PC Lucy Sculthorpe helped to organise the calendar. She said: “Two retired dogs from our unit have been supported by the Thin Blue Paw: RPD Harper and RPD Redd. Both had required ongoing treatment which has been funded by the charity and we wanted to give something back to say thank you.”

A couple ran 4km every day to raise money after we supported their retired police dog, Pablo, with life-saving surgery.
Carly and George both ran 4km every day for a month to raise £700 after we covered the costs of Pablo’s surgery to remove a tumour from his abdomen.
Suffolk Police officer Carly said: “The Foundation covered the £4,000 bill after Pablo’s surgery and we wanted to do a fundraiser to thank them and help raise some funds in return.
“We decided to run 4k every day for a month, representing the £4k they covered in vet bills.”
A Welsh police officer tackle three tough endurance challenges to raise money to support our work.
Jamie, 27, completed Ironman Lanzarote, Dragon Devil in the UK, and the Wales Dragon 100 in three months.
He said: “As a police officer I see the work that police animals do, day in and day out. It blows my mind that they do all of this and then, when they retire, they leave with nothing.
“I believe that the work the Thin Blue Paw does for these animals and the support they provide to their owners is second to none, and gives these dogs the best life post-service.”

A man walked 120 miles across the whole of Devon – north to south – to raise £1,600 after we supported his Ministry of Defence dog, RPD Atos.
Chris spent four days walking across the county, wild camping at night. His partner, Claire – Atos’s former handler – and the springer spaniel met him at the finish line.
Claire said: “Chris and Atos are the best of friends and Chris was so worried about Atos when he injured his legs and needed surgery.
“The Foundation has been an absolute lifeline for us and we were so pleased to be able to raise some money in return so they can go on to support more dogs like Atos.”
A kennel manager at the Ministry of Defence Police dog section completed the traditional Kilt Walk to raise more than £500 for the Foundation.
Ceilidh, 34, walked 22.6 miles as part of the Glasgow Kilt Walk after finding out about the work of the Thin Blue Paw.
She said: “It was incredible to hear their story and find out about the charity they’d helped to found.”
Ceilidh, pictured with PD Volt, one of the dogs she helped take care of, completed the route in just over seven hours.

A group of Scottish officers from the Ministry of Defence Police raised more than £2,000 by running and cycling a relay of 350 miles around Aberdeenshire.
The nine-strong team embarked on their 12-hour challenge after being inspired by dog handler Phil’s police dog, Hörbi.
He said: “The Thin Blue Paw Foundation has supported retired police dogs I know and, one day, Hörbi may need their help.
“I wanted to do something to support their wonderful work and help ensure that retired working dogs will be able to get the medical treatment they need.”
