MEET RETIRED POLICE DOG BOLLE
What are some of the highlights of Bolle’s career?
“Bolle worked at the Queen’s Jubilee Pageant and at the Queen’s funeral which was a sad event but a huge honour. She also worked at the RAF’s 100th anniversary celebrations, in London, and was part of the King’s Coronation.”
What does retirement look like for Bolle?
“Bolle was exceptional at tracking people so I still keep her active by getting her to find me out in the garden and in the woods when we’re on a walk!”
How did you come to adopt Bolle?
“I’m not a dog handler but I’m based at RAF Honington (in Suffolk) which is also home to the RAF Police Dogs Rehoming section and I got very lucky with Bolle!”
What help has the Thin Blue Paw given to you and Bolle?
The Foundation helped cover the cost of Bolle’s scans and surgery when she had a cancerous lump removed from her leg. Bolle also receives free food for life through our partnership with Barking Heads.
HOW WE HELPED RETIRED POLICE DOG BOLLE IN RETIREMENT
RPD Bolle worked for the RAF as a guard and patrol dog until retiring in January 2023 at the age of eight after showing early signs of arthritis.
She was deployed to the Falkland Islands to work as part of the dog section, and also carried out roles within UK operations, including for the Royal Family.
Her owner, Paul McGuire, adopted her when she retired. He said: “She was always at the forefront on public-facing operations due to her calm demeanour but fierce response in the face of danger.”

In August 2023, Paul discovered a lump on her leg and vets diagnosed her with cancer and removed it immediately.
He spoke with the Foundation and we agreed to split the cost of the treatment.
Following further scans and x-rays, Bolle was given the all-clear from cancer and returned to her relaxing retired life.
Bolle also benefits from free dog food via our partnership with Barking Heads, for which Paul is very grateful.

“I’m really grateful for the support the Thin Blue Paw has given Bolle, and I feel the charity should only help rather than foot the whole bill.”
Paul, Bolle’s owner
