MEET RETIRED POLICE DOG JOOBA
What are some of the highlights of Jooba’s career?
Jooba located a number of high-risk missing people during her career, including one woman who was about to attempt suicide. On another occasion, she located a significant amount of Class A drugs which had been thrown by a fleeing suspect who’d run from a stolen car.
What did a normal day at work look like for Jooba?
“Jooba worked tirelessly with me; detaining fleeing suspects, searching for discarded property, helping to locate missing persons, and being involved in deployments of the firearms response team. When she retired, she initially found it difficult to adjust.”
What does retired life look like for Jooba?
“Retired life for Jooba has a much steadier pace, although I do keep up her obedience and search training by setting tasks when we’re out for our daily walks which she loves.”
What’s your favourite memory with Jooba since her retirement?
“All our time with Jooba has been special but getting her home for Christmas this year, safe, after her surgery and infection, has been amazing.”
HOW WE HELPED RETIRED POLICE DOG JOOBA IN RETIREMENT
Nine-year-old RPD Jooba started her working life with the military, based in Dorset, before moving to South Wales Police and then transferring to South Yorkshire Police.
She was paired with PC Michael Greaves at South Yorkshire Police in 2021 and worked ‘tirelessly’.
She retired in 2022 for operational reasons but initially found it difficult to settle into life without her work.

In October 2022, Michael noticed Jooba was lame on her back leg and took her to the vet who discovered that she’d torn her cruciate ligament, requiring surgery, which we paid for.
Then, in November 2024, she started limping on her other hind leg and needed cruciate ligament surgery once again, which we also covered.
Unfortunately her recovery didn’t go to plan and she had to be hospitalised for an infection. But thankfully she soon returned home and is now back on all four paws again.

“We couldn’t be more appreciative for the help this has afforded us, especially with the cost of living affecting everyone right now.”
Michael, Jooba’s former handler and owner
