MEET RETIRED POLICE DOG BAILEY
What are some of the highlights of Bailey’s career?
Bailey found 1.5k of cocaine and brought down an organised crime group – the ring-leader got 12 years in prison!
What did retirement look like for Bailey?
“Even in retirement, Bailey was a typical spaniel! He never ran out of energy and never stopped looking or searching – which made him great at his job – but he’d do anything for his love for a tennis ball!”
What’s your favourite memory with Bailey?
“I haven’t really got a favourite memory because, as time goes on, you realise that every memory is special.”
Tell us your a funny story about Bailey…
“Bailey always had to have something in his mouth when we went for a walk. He’d pick up a rock that was too big for him and then he’d have to downgrade to a smaller one part-way round the walk! One day he found a pair of discarded trainers tied together and ran around with them, they were flying around and kept tripping him up but he insisted on carrying them the whole way!”
HOW WE HELPED RETIRED POLICE DOG BAILEY IN RETIREMENT

Twelve-year-old RPD Bailey was an enthusiastic and dedicated cash, drugs and weapons detection dog with Humberside Police for more than eight years.
He joined the force at just 14-months and was partnered with PC Chris Wright in 2015 when his previous handler retired.
When Chris then left the unit both of his working dogs, Bailey and Pedro, retired with him and he adopted them.
In April 2022, Chris came downstairs one morning to find Bailey collapsed, surrounded by vomit and diarrhoea.
He was hospitalised for six days and needed 9l of fluid to rehydrate him before being diagnosed with an infection and Cushings disease.
We covered the £1,500 bill easing the financial pressure on Chris.
Chris said: “The Thin Blue Paw is a brilliant organisation which helps our unsung and forgotten heroes.”
Bailey passed away in May 2024 after suffering a seizure following a walk and Chris sadly had to make the difficult decision to have him put to sleep.

IN MEMORY OF
RPD BAILEY 2012-2024
“Having Bailey put to sleep was the hardest decision but it was comforting that he’d just had a lovely walk with me and was now over rainbow bridge and was not suffering anymore.” – Chris
